food poisoning
so it has been a few days since i last posted. and there is a good reason for that. early monday morning, our oldest came into our bedroom complaining he was feeling sick and that he "had the bug" again. sure enough, the poor little guy was pretty sick.
it was so hard to watch: his small frame stiffening from the contractions of his abdomen. he was crying and miserable. i did what i could do to get him through it, got him settled and let him rest till it all started up again.
except...
as i was cleaning up the initial mess, i told my husband to sit with him because i too had to go to the bathroom now. sure enough, i had whatever it was too. now, i had gone to bed at 2 am, with a queasy stomach. however, i thought that was just the excitement of watching the olympic swimming that evening and the vanilla coffee i had drank. oh no, i too had it.
so it did not take long to figure out what it was, as my son and i were the only two sick, and we were the only two that had had the lo mein from the carnival.
yes, lo mein from the carnival. see, i walked by and the chicken on a stick there looked and smelled so good. and it truly was. i watched them coat and cook it to my order. the downfall was the lo mein i saw in the tin container. i saw the fresh veggies (broccoli, corn, peas, carrots and cabbage), and i just had to have it. in hindsight, i know broccoli and carrots should not be left out like that, and that should have been a big no for me. again, hindsight is 20/20.
so four days later, the illness is till trying to work its way out of our systems. i was down all day monday, and thankfully my husband was able to come home and take care of our kids. my son, after a few episodes, fell asleep and was fine the next day. but then again, he only had a small portion of the lo mein.
lesson learned: stick to the bad, fried foods at the carnival/fair; you know those things are cooked through and anything bad is fried off in the process :)
our next fair outing is the county fair -- and i have my eyes set on the newest fried fad -- fried pineapple on a stick. what's not to love?
