olympics day 1
i am a woman obsessed. i have always enjoyed going to swim meets. but olympic swimming is my favorite. i sincerely cannot sit still. in fact, when michael phelps swam the 400 im tonight, i was up on my feet cheering with my one year old. and my excitement was so contagious that he was giggling and humming himself.
it amazes me...
that michael phelps is so good, especially those final 50 meters. instead of tiring and slowing down, it seems he catches the wave of excitement too and pushes himself even more that last leg of the race.
i thoroughly enjoyed watching hoff race against the australian rice. i share her disappointment for not taking the gold, however, she finsihed at record pace and medaled, so there is nothing disappointing about that. well done!
and dara torres. i swear, if i could look half as good as you when i am in my forties, that will be more than enough for me. i won't need any medals, but i am rooting for you to medal in your races.
i am not usually a big fan of fencing, however, i like broadening my horizons with the olympics. i have my favorites, but i do appreciate the athleticism demonstrated in other sports. well done to the women's sweep of fencing! congratulations to mariel zagunis, who got the gold (and is quite the screamer), sada jacobson, who took silver (and had an obviously emotional day), and becca ward, who too bronze (and is also quite the screamer). well done ladies!
on a final note, i have to voice my appreciation for beach volleyball. fantastic start for may-treanor and walsh. i was a little creeped out by our fearless leader with the ladies -- dirty old man! but misty and kerry did not disappoint, which is far more than what can be said for the men's team. dalhausser and rogers really need to realize that they need to play to win for their country. latvia spanked them, and i hope that is enough of a wake up call for them. you guys can do it -- go USA!
okay, i need to get back to watching -- it is the women's 4 x 100 relay -- let's go ladies! go team USA!!!
